Change settings from the chat

Ask the chat to turn a feature on or off, pick a theme or switch a model, and it changes the setting for you.

You do not have to find the right page in Settings to switch something on. Ask the chat, and it flips the same switch you would, on the spot. Like the chat itself, this is part of the Pro and Lifetime plans.

Asking for a change

Say what you want in your own words: turn on graph view, switch to the Nord theme, make the text bigger, use the 24 hour clock, turn off spell check. The chat changes it right away and shows a Changed a setting step with what it set. Its reply says what the setting was before and where it lives in Settings, so you can put it back by asking again or by hand.

Ask what something is set to, like is version history on, and the chat reads it back without changing anything.

What it can change

  • Version history, graph view, spell check, group notes by date and handwriting notes, in Settings under Notes
  • Remember details from chats, in Settings under Personalization, see What the AI remembers about you
  • The theme, light or dark mode, the accent color and the text size, in Settings under Appearance
  • The 12 or 24 hour clock, in Settings under General
  • On desktop, the fixed toolbar, the floating toolbar and draggable blocks, in Settings under Editor, see Customize the editor toolbars
  • Which chat, image and transcription models are on, in Settings under Models

Themes

Picking a theme sets the one for its mode: Nord is a dark theme, so asking for Nord sets your dark theme and leaves your light one alone. If you chose Light by hand, the app switches to Dark so you see it; with Appearance on System it keeps following your device. The themes come with Pro and Lifetime, the same as on the Appearance page.

Models

The chat can switch on or off any model the Models page lists. Several chat models can be on at once, and each one shows in the model picker. Only one image model and one transcription model can be on, so turning one on turns the one before it off, and the chat says which. Adding a model, turning on a provider or entering an API key stays in Settings under Models, see Add your own AI models.

What stays in Settings

The chat does not sign you in or out, enter API keys, turn providers or sync on or off, make or restore backups, or delete anything. Ask it for one of those and it tells you where to go instead. Only a chat with Grape AI changes settings: the agents you make leave them alone, whatever their switches say.

On your other devices

A change made in the chat is the same as one made by hand, so with sync on it reaches your other devices the way that setting always does. Text size is the exception: it stays on the device you changed it on, since a phone and a laptop screen want different sizes.
