Grape has an MCP server, the open standard AI apps use to work with other tools. Connect it, and ChatGPT, Claude or any app that speaks MCP can list your folders, read your notes, write new ones, edit and file them, all in your account and all showing up in your Grape apps through sync. It is part of the Pro plan.
Before you start
You need a Grape account on Pro, signed in with the same Google account you use in the Grape apps. The connection is approved in a browser on grape.cool, so have that sign in ready.
In ChatGPT
Open the plugins directory in ChatGPT, find Grape and add it, then sign in when ChatGPT sends you to grape.cool and choose Allow. If Grape is not in your directory yet, add it as a connector by URL in the ChatGPT settings, with the address https://mcp.grape.cool.
In Claude
In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector and enter https://mcp.grape.cool. Claude opens grape.cool for you to sign in and allow the connection. Claude Code and other MCP clients take the same address.
What it can do
The connection gives the AI app twelve tools. The AI picks the right one from what you ask, and most apps show the tool name while it runs, so here is what each one does.
Folders
- List folders (list_folders): every folder and subfolder in your account, with how many notes each holds. The AI calls it first to find the folder you named.
- Create a folder (create_folder): a new folder, at the top level or inside another one.
- Rename or move a folder (update_folder): a new name, a new parent folder, or back to the top level.
- Delete a folder (delete_folder): the folder and its subfolders go, and every note inside moves to Recently Deleted, where you can restore it for 30 days.
Notes
- List notes (list_notes): your notes newest first, with title, a short excerpt, folder, tags and dates. It can show one folder, only pinned notes, or Recently Deleted when asked.
- Search notes (search_notes): the notes that contain a word or phrase, best matches first, each with the sentence around the match.
- Read a note (get_note): the whole note as markdown, with its tags and dates. Images, drawings, decks and the other blocks markdown cannot show appear as placeholders the AI keeps in place.
- A locked note is encrypted on your devices and the server cannot open it, so none of the tools list, search, read, change or delete it.
- Create a note (create_note): a new note from markdown, in the folder you name or, if you name none, your main folder: a top level folder called Notes if you have one, otherwise your first folder. The first line becomes the title, a word starting with # becomes a tag, [[Note title]] becomes a note link, and it can be pinned right away.
- Update a note (update_note): either adds to the end of a note and leaves everything already there untouched, or rewrites the whole text. It can also pin or unpin the note.
- Move a note (move_note): into another folder. Moving a note out of Recently Deleted restores it.
- Delete a note (delete_note): moves it to Recently Deleted. Nothing is erased permanently.
Account
- Connected account (get_profile): the name and email of the Grape account behind the connection, which lets ChatGPT tell two connected accounts apart.
Everything a tool writes is a normal note or folder in your account, so it shows up in your Grape apps like a change made on another device.
What it cannot do
It never deletes anything permanently: a delete moves the note to Recently Deleted, where you can restore it for 30 days. It cannot add images or files, edit handwriting notes, or reach drawings, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps and slide decks inside a note, though it keeps them in place when it rewrites the text around them. It also cannot change your settings or your account.
When you see the changes
A note the AI creates reaches your devices the way any synced change does: when the app starts, when you come back to it, every fifteen minutes, or straight away with Sync Now in the Cloud Sync tab of Settings.
Disconnecting
Remove the connection in the AI app and it stops working at once. A connection that has not been used for 90 days expires on its own. Ending your Pro plan also ends every connection, since the server refuses accounts without it.
Privacy
The AI app receives only what it asks for on your behalf: the folders and notes you tell it to work with. What it does with them is covered by that app's privacy policy. Grape keeps a record of each connection and when it was last used, and never reads what passes through it. The details are in the privacy policy.
