Recover a deleted note

Where deleted notes go, how to bring one back, and what emptying the folder really deletes.

Deleting a note does not destroy it. The note moves to the Recently Deleted folder, at the bottom of the folder list on both platforms.

Bringing a note back

Open Recently Deleted, open or select the note, and use Move to Folder to put it back where it belongs. Everything comes back with it: content, attachments, tags and version history.

Deleting permanently

Deleting a note while inside Recently Deleted asks for confirmation and then removes it for good, along with its attachments, flashcards, quizzes and mind maps. The folder menu also has Empty Recently Deleted, which clears everything in one go.

Notes stay until you act

Grape does not purge Recently Deleted on a timer. Deleted notes wait there until you delete them permanently or empty the folder, so an accidental delete from months ago is usually still recoverable.

If the note is truly gone

A permanently deleted note can still be inside an older backup. Restoring a backup replaces your current library though, so treat it as the last resort rather than the first.

Try It While the Guide Is Open

Grape is free to install and needs no account, so you can follow along in the real app.
