Grape offers a set of home screen and Lock Screen widgets on iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later. They read from a copy of your library the app keeps up to date, so they show the right thing even when Grape is not running.
The widgets are part of Grape Pro, like the themes. On Free or Lifetime, a widget you add shows an Upgrade to Pro tile in its place, and tapping it opens the plan page in the app. The moment a Pro subscription is active, the widgets fill in on their own.
Adding one
Touch and hold the home screen, tap the add button, and search for Grape. Each widget comes in the sizes it makes sense in. Once a widget is on the screen, touch and hold it and choose Edit Widget to set it up.
The widgets
- Quick Capture starts a note, a voice recording, a handwritten page, a photo, a scan, a chat or a search without opening the app first. The small size does one of those, which you pick in its settings; the medium size shows all of them
- Recent Notes lists the notes you edited last, for the whole library or one folder
- Pinned Note keeps one note readable on the home screen. Choose the note in its settings, or leave it empty and it follows whatever you have pinned
- Folder shows one folder, how many notes it holds and what changed in it last, and opens it with a tap
- Study shows one of your flashcards a day and turns it over when you tap it
- Ask Grape opens the chat, or runs one of your saved prompts
- Unchecked gathers every unticked checklist item out of your notes
On iOS 18 there are also four Control Center controls: a new note, a voice note, a document scan and a handwritten page.
The Unchecked widget
This is the one you can finish something from. Every row is an item from a checklist in one of your notes, with the note it came from underneath. Tap the circle and the item is ticked in the note the next time Grape runs; the row changes on the spot, so it feels done straight away.
Its settings narrow what it shows:
- Folder limits the list to the checklists inside one folder
- Note limits it to one note. Pick a folder first and the note list is narrowed to that folder, or leave the folder empty and choose from every note that holds a checklist
- Show checked items keeps the ticked items on the widget too, underneath the open ones, with a line through them. Tapping a ticked circle unticks it
A note with a checklist, chosen here with checked items showing, is a task list on your home screen: what is left sits at the top, what is done sits below it, and both stay in step with the note. It pairs well with the running to do note pattern.
Lock Screen
Recent Notes, Pinned Note, Study and Unchecked each offer a rectangular Lock Screen widget, and Quick Capture and Study offer a circular one. They show the top note, the card of the day or how many items are still open, and tap through to the same place.
Keeping them current
The widgets update whenever you edit a note or a folder in Grape, and again when the app goes to the background, so what the home screen shows is what the app last knew. The accent colour follows the one you picked in settings.
