Create checklists and to do lists

Checkbox lists for tasks, and a pattern for a running to do note that actually gets used.

A checklist is a list where every item has a checkbox you can tick.

Adding one

On desktop, type / and choose Checklist, or use the checklist button in the toolbar. On mobile, tap the checklist button on the toolbar above the keyboard. Pressing return adds the next item, and pressing return on an empty item ends the list.

Ticking things off

Click or tap the checkbox. Checked items stay in place with a line through them, so the note keeps a record of what got done rather than making it vanish.

A pattern that works

Keep one running to do note and pin it so it stays at the top of the list. New tasks go at the top, finished ones get ticked, and once a week you delete the ticked ones. It is low ceremony and it survives busy weeks.

Tasks inside other notes

Checklists work anywhere, so meeting notes can end with a short list of actions right where they were decided. If you want to find them again later, add a tag like #todo next to the list.
