Keyboard shortcuts on desktop

Every shortcut the desktop app answers to, from new notes to the hidden snake game.

Cmd on Mac, Ctrl on Windows and Linux.

Everywhere

  • Cmd N creates a note in the selected folder
  • Cmd Shift N creates a folder
  • Cmd K opens search
  • Cmd , opens Settings

In the editor

  • Cmd F finds text in the open note
  • Cmd G and Shift Cmd G jump to the next and previous match
  • Escape closes the find bar
  • Markdown as you type: # for headings, - for lists, > for quotes, **bold** and *italic*

In the lists

  • Arrow keys move through the note list or folder list once that panel has focus
  • Cmd Backspace on Mac, Delete on Windows and Linux, deletes the selected note

The one you did not expect

Cmd Option S opens a playable snake game. It is also offered while you wait for a long transcription to finish. This one is not productivity advice.

On mobile

Shortcuts are a desktop feature, though an iPad with a hardware keyboard gets the system level text editing shortcuts inside notes.

Try It While the Guide Is Open
